From the main National Park car park in Grassington, cross the pedestrian crossing and turn left along the road into the village. Turn right up the high street and continue up the road to the left side of the square to the town hall. Take the road off to the left (Chapel Street) and follow this until the Dales Way is signposted up Bank Lane.
Follow the Dales Way up the lane, left into a field and across two stiles to a footpath junction. Continue on the Dales Way along a track. After the second stile, near the edge of Bastow Wood, take the footpath on the left hand track. Take the path which runs along the top of the limestone pavement, then keep left along the boundary wall of Bastow Wood.
After the wood, cross the wall and follow the bottom of the dry valley and on towards limestone outcrops. Follow the valley edge, gradually dropping down to join a track and then a road. Turn right onto the road to Conistone, right at the road junction, then right again onto a gravel track. Follow this track to the right hand side of the houses to a gate. Follow the signposted footpath up Conistone Dib.
When the valley widens out, cross the stile on the right hand side, signposted Grassington (on the other side of the valley from a radio mast). Follow this path to a stile, then take the left hand track heading diagonally up the hill (not signposted).
Follow this to a small group of trees, then take the path up the side of the hill, to Bare House. Follow the path to the left hand side of the house and walls, to a field gate by a barn. Follow the track through a gate and to the right, eventually joining a walled lane.
At the end of this lane, turn right onto the road, then left onto a bridleway by the house. Follow this bridleway to Hebden Gill (NOTE:- Consult a map here as there are many tracks around the old lead workings).
Follow the gill down and over a bridge and through a gate, to join a tarmac road at Hole Bottom. Turn up the first lane on the right then take the footpath that goes left from the corner. Follow a wall boundary to a gate, then head right up a steep hill to the wall corner. Cross a stile and keep heading up the hill through another three stiles. Head to the top of the wall on the left hand side and continue (ignoring the first track) to join a higher track. (NOTE:- Consult a map here). Follow the higher track to a gate.
Go through the gate and along a walled lane. Before you get to a ruined barn, take the stile off to the left hand side and head diagonally down the fields, through many stiles and finally though a metal gate into another walled lane. Turn right into this lane and follow it down into Grassington, turning right at a lane junction to bring you out back by the town hall.
